Kelleher Construction Company announces the completion of Kortec, Inc. Global Headquarters and Manufacturing Facility in Ipswich, MA

Kelleher Construction Company, ofBeverly completed construction of the $14 Million P.E.T.(poly-ethylene teraphthalate) facility for Kortec, Inc. in Ipswich.  Construction on the site began in March 2003, and was completed ten months later on January 31, 2004.  The 117,000+ sf facility includes corporate offices, product development and assembly space, warehousing and a product showroom. 

The building, designed by Winter Street Architects with critical input from Kortec, Inc. incorporates abundant natural light, including an impressive two-story, floor to ceiling curtain wall at the reception area.  Additional unique facility features include the use of customized slide acrylic screen treatments, a unique marble and quartz plaster interior feature wall, and a décor incorporating beech wood and art glass in keeping with the Feng Shui design of the open office space.

Structurally, the facility is unique for its use of moment connected framing throughout the entire machine hall assembly area, thus eliminating the standard cross bracing common to warehouse design.  The 40,000 sf machine hall is sound attenuated via an acoustical roof deck and wall mounted Tectum panels.  The floor of the machine hall is coated with a unique three color epoxy system.  The P.E.T. molds are shuttled to and fro injection molders via two 10 ton bridge cranes.  These machines, too heavy for overhead cranes, are moved via a sophisticated air bearing system.  A customized air lock was installed between the machine hall and warehouse to depressurize the atmosphere between the two workspaces and maintain the required 42% humidity of the machine hall.  Finally, a 157,000 gallon tank was erected to supply water to the internal fire protection system.

This seven acre facility is fully landscaped and serves as the worldwide corporate headquarters for Kortec Inc.
