Construction Begins for New Therapeutic Garden at Beverly Hospital's Spectrum Adult Day Center

Beverly, MA- Construction has begun on Phase 1 of Jack’s Garden, an expanded and fully landscaped therapeutic garden for Beverly Hospital’s Spectrum Center, which provides care to those with Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.  Construction of Phase 1 included extending the existing garden and planting several trees, bushes, and other shrubbery.

The design and construction of Jack’s Garden has been donated by the Kelleher Family and Kelleher Construction Company.  Jack’s Garden will honor the memory of John C. Kelleher, Jr. who was cared for at the Spectrum Center.  The new garden will be both a tribute to the memory of John C. Kelleher, Jr. and a way for the family to show its gratitude and appreciation to the Spectrum Center for the care and support they provided as the family faced this difficult disease.

The services of nationally renowned landscape architect Frank Todd of Frank Todd & Associates of Rowley, MA have been retained for the garden design.  Todd’s design approach focused on providing a tranquil, well-shaded, reflective and relaxing space to be freely used by guests of the Spectrum Center.  The garden design includes many unique trees and shrubbery which will be accented by several different types of perennials.  The newly enlarged garden will also include a brick patio to be used as an outdoor dining area for the center.  Kelleher Construction Company, along with Designscapes Landscape and Irrigation of Lynnfield, MA will construct the new garden and patio.  It is anticipated that the construction of the new garden will be completed in three phases, spanning the next few planting seasons.

The Beverly Hospital Spectrum Center is an adult day health program that provides specialized daytime care for adults with Alzheimer’s disease, dementia or related memory disorders.  The program is recognized by the Alzheimer’s Association of Eastern Massachusetts and the Center’s staff is specially trained to care for Alzheimer’s patients.
